about

About Ionomics

Ionomics, also known as Elemental Analysis, is the large-scale study of mineral nutrients and trace elements in biological systems, offering insights into their role in metabolism, cellular function, and disease mechanisms. The ionome is highly dynamic, shaped by genetic, environmental, and physiological factors, influencing cellular homeostasis, disease progression, and adaptation to stressors.

Beyond elemental quantification, ionomics reveals the functional regulation of ions and their interplay with biochemical networks. Advanced techniques like inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) enable precise profiling of essential elements (e.g., calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc) and toxic metals (e.g., lead, cadmium).

Medicine & Disease Ionomics

Trace element imbalances are linked to conditions like diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, making ionomics a powerful tool for biomarker discovery and precision diagnostics.

Functional Genomics & Biotechnology

Ionomics uncovers gene-ion interactions, shedding light on how genetic variations impact ion uptake, transport, and utilization, with applications in biotechnology, metabolic engineering, and synthetic biology.

Plant Ionomics & Environmental Adaptation

In agriculture, ionomics enhances crop improvement, soil nutrient management, and plant resilience, enabling the development of drought- and stress-resistant crops.

SERVICES

Our Ionomics Services

At oloBion, we provide cutting-edge ionomics services for Agriculture & Food Science and Environmental & Ecology. Using ICP-MS and bioinformatics, we deliver precise elemental profiling, helping researchers decode the ionome’s role in biological function, disease, and environmental adaptation.
